We recently visited the Buxton area of Victoria for a couple of days of rest and relaxation, not to mention a significant birthday celebration for yours truly. We had done some research on the internet regarding places to stay and came across Acheron Ridge Riverfront Boutique Accommodation in Buxton near Marysville and The Yarra Valley, Victoria.
After a pleasant drive from home we arrived just after lunch and were thrilled with our choice of accommodation, we could not have asked for more. The cottage was set amidst lovely gardens and the view from the deck was to the Mount Cathedral ranges.
As you entered the cottage there was a lovely dining table for two adjacent to the lounge room.
There were books to read, games to play and even a jigsaw if you wanted to spend the time.
Of course there was the television, DVD player and iPod/Phone dock for music.
The cottage was air-conditioned in the lounge room and bedroom, as well as a gas log fire in the living area. The kitchen is fantastic with a huge fridge, oven, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, kettle, and a dishwasher to make life easier. In the pantry was foil, plastic wrap, sauce, oil and even a picnic bag and rug if you wanted to use them.
Being avid cooks even when we travel, we were thrilled with the choice of cooking utensils provided for our use. Absolutely fantastic.
Breakfast of eggs, bacon, tomatoes and homemade bread were provided, along with the honey, jam and vegemite, as well as butter and plenty of milk in the fridge. I was fortunate to have my husband do the cooking for me whilst away and to make lots of coffees during our stay there. Wonderful!
The little extras of the shortbread cookies and gorgeous chocolates went down a treat with the coffee. What a lovely touch, and very much appreciated by us.
Sitting on the deck sipping that beautiful cup of coffee, or enjoying breakfast was divine.
There is a washing machine provided off the kitchen should you want to do your laundry whilst away.
The bedroom was great, and the bed was so comfy you didn’t want to get up in the morning.
Slippers and robes were also provided which I loved. I always like to take my shoes off and change into slippers. What a lovely touch.
The bathroom was well appointed with fluffy towels and some beautiful handmade soap from Dindi Naturals, along with a huge shower. Beautiful.
The Acheron River adjoins the private property and we did have a try at trout fishing, as well as putting in a yabbie net to try our luck. We watched as a very large blue yabbie (cray) with white claws emerged from the muddy edge and wandered around the rocks. It was definitely not interested in our yabbie net and neither were the fish biting. It was still a really nice place to spend a bit of time in the mid-late afternoon.
This was taken around 10 am in the morning and you can see how clear it is. We had left our yabbie net in the river overnight hoping that it might attract them.
Success! We had one lonely yabbie that had got into the net after the bait, but we decided to let it go until another day.
The one thing we will do next time is to stop in Healesville and buy our supplies for the stay as you need to go to Marysville to shop otherwise.
We had the best couple of days away in a beautifully appointed cottage with lots of little extras to make our stay memorable. We will definitely try and visit again in the future.
It really was a Home Away From Home!
Thank you so much for taking the time in writing your blog about us.
It was a pleasure to have you stay as guests.
Kind Regards
