My grandson Kelly will be attending the NASA Space Camp in September along with approximately 200 other vision impaired students travelling from all over the world. This is a very exciting event and a once in a lifetime opportunity for all those involved.
Space Camp is for six days at the US Space and Rocket Centre located in Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.A. The camp is specifically set up for the students, with buttons and screens being fitted with bigger font software and braille. Voice output technology is put into place.
Upon arrival, the students will go through briefing and will undertake a simulated mission. They will launch rockets and land shuttles as well. Space Camp is a great experience for all and can lead to bigger opportunities for the students in their future lives.
To help with the cost of such a trip, students are endeavouring to raise money from various fundraising events leading up to their departure.
Kelly had arranged with his teacher from Battistello Karate to run a coffee/cookie stall at their recent gradings morning. We were fortunate to have been supported by Dimattina Coffee on the morning of this event.
As you can see there are plenty of sweet choices and the coffee and hot chocolate were fantastic, particularly on such a cold Melbourne morning.
It was a very successful event and hopefully there will be similar ones at other venues before September. Many people were generous with their donations and support and we thank them all.
Anyone wanting to help Kelly with this venture can deposit donations to:
Account: Heatherwood School (ABN 74336239829), BSB 063146, Account No: 10074922 Description (must include this) SCKELSULL. (Tax receipts can be issued).
Alternately there is an online Crowd Funding site that has been set up for Kelly which is also doing well.
A BIG THANK YOU to all those that have supported Kelly and we will keep you updated as things progress.
